IGOR AND ANDRE: DANNY ROBERTS

This is Danny Roberts, the talent behind the illustration blog, 'Igor and Andre'.

I don't even know what to say.  I saw his work posted on another blog and was completely blown away.  I've been painting for years and have been in art school for almost a decade and i rarely see work that makes me STARE.  There is so much intensity and emotion in not only the characters he draws, but in his line work, his choice of colour.  I spent the better part of an hour adoring his work, and for the first time in a long time found myself trying to figure out what EXACTLY was so compelling about it.  Why I was so drawn to it......?

I finally came across a post that showed his inspiration, which ranged from Van Gogh (i knew it!! the beautifully neurotic line work reminded me of the feeling I get when I look at his self portraits), to fashion photography, to the elegance of Marie Antoinette, to HENRY DARGER! Please look up Henry Darger- his story is fascinating!! In fact, I'm going to blog him right after this.

Anyway, please please have a look at Danny's work.  There are also pictures of him in his studio, and it is clear that he works incredibly hard.  He deserves all the success he's so quickly finding.  At 23, he has studied both photography and fashion design, and has been featured in multiple international publications.

Many of the above images are illustrations he has done of blog personalities he has admired and met through the internet community.  I'm learning myself (slowly... my blog is just a baby!) how supportive and inspirational this group of people really can be.

....... And he sometimes rocks lederhosen.  Rad!

Be sure to have a look at his site here
And you can buy his work on etsy here

And Danny, if you're reading this, feel free to draw me! I'm not that fancy a lady and my blog is just an infant, but maybe one day I'd be so lucky.

ETC. ADELINE RAPON

This is Adeline.  Another blogger from Paris.  Her photographs are gorgeous, somehow making the everyday seem especially charmed and dark.  She does little to manipulate her images, and although one can tell they're of a hobbiest turned professional-in-training, I most love the humility in them.  I hope that no matter where life takes her, she doesn't lose that.

She would be a wonderful fine arts or fashion photographer, but the accessibility of her imagery is what makes it so captivating.  Her work is understated and raw, but also very alive.  Her blog shows vulnerability... the output of a lady coming into her craft but still holding onto the innocence of her 'girl with a camera' roots.

Crustina will like :)

LE BLOG DE BETTY

This is Betty.  My 25-year-old Parisian fashion muse.
She is adorable, and so is her site.

Fashion is expression too.  Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  It's a gateway obsession.  It starts with loving the clothes, then loving the CRAFT.... and everything in between.

CALIFORNIA SELECT VINTAGE.... STORES!

I know, I know.... old news.  Everyone knows about the American Apparel vintage 'line' (if you can call it that?) 'California Select'.  However- and forgive me if I'm that tardy on this- it's not just an ebay store anymore!
They have opened stores in LA, New York, Toronto, etcetera etcetera!  AA's site will link you to the California Select 'Vintage and More' blog where all the amazing items they come across, have dry cleaned (yay!) and send out randomly to their shops are shown.  I can't wait to come across one of these.  I'm going to have to check out the one in Toronto soon (Robyn! get on that....!), although I hate to say i'm sure their things are rather pricy.  At least on ebay, it was bidding and part of the fun was competing for items with 'mystery' prices.
Then again, this stuff you can actually try on first.

ooh, 'mystery' prices :)

LOOKBOOK

I love how the internet works.... I found out about 'lookbook' through 'le blog de betty' (adorable!), which I was introduced to through ANOTHER blog.... and so on and so forth and blog and blog, blah blah blah.

This is a community for the young and fearless fashion-conscious, many of whom are trying to make their way as fashion photographers and stylists.  The images are beautiful; some of the clothes are thrift store cheap and cheerful, while other pieces could only be bought on daddy's credit card.  Covet away.

Lookbook is open for anyone to have a looksee, but if you want to join you must first be invited (and sized up, highschool-style.... how nostalgic).  I'm proud to have gotten my sweet girl Robyn L.  hooked on the site, and now she's a member.... that's her above in the fedora and jumper! Beauty.
